Frequently Asked Questions

Does the glucometer need a phone or app?
No. It transmits over its own cellular connection. Patients test as they normally would, and the result reaches the care team automatically. There’s no app to install, no pairing, and nothing to sync.
Are test strips and lancets included?
Yes. Strips and lancets are supplied as part of the monitoring kit and resupplied on an ongoing basis, so patients are not left unable to test because they ran out.
How is this different from a continuous glucose monitor?
A glucometer captures a precise reading at a moment the patient chooses. A continuous glucose monitor captures readings automatically throughout the day and night, showing overnight lows and post-meal excursions a fingerstick would miss. Many programs use both, for different patients.
Which CPT codes apply to glucose monitoring?
The standard RPM codes (99453, 99454, 99457 and 99458) apply when the program meets CMS requirements for device type, transmission days and management time. Our CPT code library covers the current thresholds.
Can readings flow into our EHR?
Yes. HealthArc maintains bi-directional HL7 FHIR integrations with major EHR systems, so glucose data and care-manager documentation appear in the patient chart rather than in a separate portal.
